Tesla Model Y sold goes straight to customer’s home in Texas; brand makes first autonomous delivery in history

In his brave new world, Elon Musk now has yet another reason to reinforce his idea that autonomous cars have definitely arrived to take center stage in the automotive world.

A Tesla customer in Austin, Texas, has become the world’s first car buyer to have a self-driving car delivered straight to his door from the factory.

The feat took place at Tesla’s Texas factory, where a self-driving Model Y simply rolled off the final line, without a driver or any human on board, then headed onto the public road and traveled a 30-minute journey to its new owner’s home.

Throughout the journey, Tesla recorded the Model Y driving with FSD, with the car traveling on both fast-moving roads and streets with traffic lights, arriving at the location without any incidents.

In a video published by Tesla, the Model Y appears arriving at the customer’s location, who was already in the company of some members of the American manufacturer, to welcome the arrival of the vehicle.

Elon Musk said: “There were no people in the car and it was not operated by remote operators. As far as we know, this is the first fully autonomous driving on the highway, with no people in the car and no remote operator of the car.”

As we know well from Tesla, autonomous delivery of cars to customers may have started from this, with others of the type to be authorized by the government of Texas and the city of Austin, or any other region of the USA.

Just as Autopilot and then FSD once operated, this method of autonomous vehicle delivery could gain its space alongside other Tesla services, thus being another good sales argument for the brand that needs to react after recent negative results.
