Volvo’s first mid-size SUV, the XC60, has just reached a historic milestone: the car has surpassed the iconic 240 in sales, which was previously sold for more than three decades. It was launched during the Geneva Motor Show in 2008 and, since then, it has accumulated two generations with more than 2.7 million units sold worldwide.
Produced at Volvo Car’s Ghent plant in Belgium, the first generation of the XC60 was derived from the eponymous concept presented in 2006. The SUV used Volvo’s P3 platform and shared several technologies with the Land Rover Freelander of the same era. This is because, during its development, both Volvo and Land Rover belonged to Ford and collaborated directly on the project.
Volvo XC60 – The Swedish brand’s best-selling car
It arrived on the Brazilian market in 2009, being sold in three versions: Comfort, for R$ 138,500, Dynamic, for R$ 156,500, and Top, for R$ 165,900. The engine of the three configurations of the XC60 was always the same: a 3.0 turbo inline six-cylinder with power of up to 285 hp, while the transmission was a six-speed automatic. The traction system of all versions was always four-wheel drive.
Among its new features, the model debuted in the country the autonomous braking system, now widespread among more popular models. Called City Safety, it was capable of braking the vehicle at speeds below 30 km/h.
On the big screen, the model played a major role as the car of the protagonist of the Twilight saga, Edward Cullen, played by actor Robert Pattinson. The SUV appeared in the second and third films of the saga, after a successful partnership for the launch of the compact C30 in the first film.
At the time, the Swedish brand took the opportunity to create a promotional campaign focused on young audiences, especially in the North American market.
Initially produced exclusively in Europe, the XC60 was Volvo’s first global model to also be manufactured in China, boosting local sales. It was also named World Car of the Year in 2018. The current generation XC60 introduced plug-in hybrid powertrains to a wider audience and last year was Europe’s best-selling plug-in hybrid.
2026 Volvo XC60
Line 2026 arrives updated
For the 2026 line, the model received slight changes to its appearance, receiving the changes made in February in the European market. Starting with the external look, the Volvo XC60 received a new oblique and polished grille with the company’s ever-present logo in the center. The front bumper has also changed, now with a new, sharper and more aerodynamic design and much more angular at the bottom, combined with new, darker taillights.
The biggest new features for the Volvo XC60 for 2026, however, are almost all concentrated inside. In the cabin, in fact, comes the updated Google Automotive multimedia system, borrowed from XC90 and EX90 and based this time on the new next-generation Snapdragon Cockpit platform developed by Qualcomm Technologies.

Along with this comes a larger 11.2″ central multimedia screen, designed to enhance the in-vehicle experience with 21% higher pixel density and therefore greater clarity. The wireless charger has also been revised and the SUV has gained new cup holders.
Under the hood is a 2.0 turbo gasoline engine combined with an electric motor on the rear axle. The combined power of this set is 462 hp, while the torque is 72.3 kgfm. To power the electrical system, a set of batteries with a capacity of 18.8 kWh is used. The gearbox is an 8-speed automatic and the traction is all-wheel drive.
The Volvo XC60 is currently sold in four configurations, starting at R$459,950 for the T8 Plus and reaching R$539,850 for the T8 Polestar.
